Repetitive activities like typing, gripping and using a computer mouse all cause accumulative strain in the muscles and tendons around the elbow. Since most of our jobs involve some time spent using a computer or an electronic device of some kind it’s not surprising that tendon problems like “tennis elbow” or “golfer’s elbow” are the most common cause of elbow pain.
Other conditions causing elbow pain
- Tendonitis
- Bursitis
- Fractures
- Osteoarthritis
Sometimes a pain in your elbow can actually be coming from a problem in your neck or shoulder … so at our clinic we routinely examine these areas of your body as well as your elbow to make sure nothing is missed.
How we can help
Early physio treatments for elbow pain and tennis elbow focus on relieving pain using ultrasound, massage, joint mobilisations and taping. Our physiotherapists will advise you on the things you can do to help yourself such as stretches and exercises to strengthen the muscles to prevent recurrence. We can suggest when to take breaks at work and what to do during your breaks to relieve strain in your forearms. We’ll teach you how to correct your posture and can also make recommendations for specially designed equipment such as an ergonomic mouse or keyboard.
